IT WAS A RAINY MORNING OFF SAVONA, ITALY, BUT I DIDN’T CARE. The water’s rich blue-green hue seemed even more intoxicating contrasted against the dark, nearly black sky. I was in the master stateroom belowdecks watching that water pass by the hull, rain bouncing off the sea’s surface like a gaggle of kids on a trampoline. 90'2" LENGTH OVERALL 45'9" MAXIMUM BEAM Alva Yachts has announced its Ocean Eco 90 power catamaran. The yacht is offered with an all-electric propulsion system or a hybrid diesel-electric setup. Power for the all-electric model is two 500 kW gearless electric drives and two 100-kilovolt-ampere DC generators. A hydrogen fuel cell with storage tanks is optional. The hybrid version has two 250 kW electric drives and two 611 hp diesel engines. The builder says cruise speed ranges from 8 to 10 knots with a top-end speed range of 15 to 16 knots. The yacht has about 2,152 square feet of solar-panel real estate that will reportedly generate 40 kilowatts-peak. VRIPACK YACHT design and Royal Huisman, both in the Netherlands, have unveiled a few tantalizing details about Project 406—which is being built as the world’s largest sport-fishing yacht. ¶ Project 406 has a length overall of 171 feet. That means the vessel will dwarf not only the most sizable 80-to 105-footers from well-known sport-fish builders—such as Viking Yachts, Bayliss Boatworks and Jim Smith Tournament Boats—but also the behemoth one-off sport-fishers such as the 144-foot Trinity Bad Company, 130-foot McMullen & Wing Mea Culpa and 129-foot Yachting Developments Lanakai. THE SWAN SHADOW, designed by Jarkko Jämsén, is the first power yacht Nautor’s Swan has built in its 55-year history. The Swan Shadow has a plumb bow, strakes and a twin-stepped, V-shaped hull. Power is triple 225 to 350 hp outboards. A stern platform adjusts vertically to serve as a passerelle or swim platform, and onboard setups can focus on fishing, guests or open stowage. Owners can spec a T-top or long-top roof; the latter can be ordered with telescoping pillars and movable glass to create a convertible, limousine-style abovedeck space.
