Pierpaolo Piccioli, creative director at Valentino, doesn’t design from an ivory tower. Instead, he finds inspiration for the house’s romantic silhouettes on the streets. For his 2019 Fall Winter Collection, Piccioli paired up with Jun Takahashi from Undercover—a brand that epitomizes Japanese cool with its punk rock graphics—effectively bringing the raw poetry of streetwear into the atelier. Focusing on love, a value Valentino holds in the highest regard, Takahashi created a dark fantasy with collages of kissing neoclassical sculpture busts and lush roses wrapped in chains that adorn accessories and garments in the line.
