SHORT HISTORY Long referred to as Nubia, modern-day Sudan was the site of the Kingdom of Kerma (ca. 2500-1500 B.C.) until it was absorbed into the new kingdom of Egypt. By the 11th century B.C., the Kingdom of Kush gained independence from Egypt; it lasted in various forms until the middle of the 4th century A.D. After the fall of Kush, the Nubians formed three Christian kingdoms. The latter two endured until around 1500. Between the 14th and 15th centuries much of Sudan was settled by Arab nomads, and between the 16th – 19th centuries became increasingly under the influence of Islam. Queen Amanirenas, was queen or Kandake of the Kingdom of Kush from c. 40 BC to c. 10 BC, known for halting the Roman expansion into the Kingdom of Kush in present-day Sudan from 25 to 21 B.C. Though we know little about her appearance, she was described by an observer as “a masculine sort of woman”, and blind in one eye. The glass, metal, and crystal eyes of the statue, which are frequently lost in similar pieces, remained intact due…

It’s a scary thing to think about; work, money and life satisfaction. Maybe you know exactly what you want to do and how to get there but you are amongst the few, and who knows, possibly you will change your mind. Work in our modern world, is the result of a long historical process. For example, in the 17th and 18th centuries, coal miners in Scotland, and their families, were bound to the colliery in which they worked and the service of its owner. This bondage was set into law by an Act of Parliament in 1606, which ordained that "no…
Astrology, according to the Oxford dictionary, is the study of the movements and relative positions of celestial bodies (objects in space) interpreted as having an influence on human affairs and the natural world. Astrology originated in Mesopotamia roughly 3,000 years ago, where the Babylonians picked 12 constellations and assigned one to each month of the year. Astrology developed its Western form in Greek civilization during the Hellenistic period. Astrology entered India and then Islamic culture as part of the Greek tradition and was returned to European culture through Arabic teaching during the Middle Ages. Astrology was also important in ancient China, where it became standard practice to have a horoscope cast for each newborn child and at all decisive life cycles. According to the Greek tradition, the heavens are divided…
