Actor and official Robin Hood of Nottingham, Tim Pollard, passed away on June 28th, aged 61, following a “short brave battle with cancer”. Everyone at Bow extends our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the beloved symbol of Nottingham. Nottingham City Council employed Tim to appear at various events. Here are just a few of the responses to the sad news: “His laughter, his spirit, and his incredible friendship touched countless lives”; “He was always willing to share a joke and worldly advice”; “It was always a pleasure to see him around, and he was always *my* Robin Hood”. This July saw two new international events feature Para archery. First up is the 2025 European Para Youth Games in Istanbul, Türkiye, taking place on 21 – 28 of July. This 7th instalment of the biannual multisport continental event featured archery for the first time. 26 archers from 7 countries, Azerbaijan, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Slovakia and host Türkiye, competed in three categories for individual titles. At this event both genders compete together and are split by bow division – recurve, compound and W1. The second international Para archery debut took place in Mexico, the Americas Para Archery Cup in Morelia. 77 Para athletes from 11 countries took part, a couple of the athletes entering more than one event. Two higher-tier staff have left Archery GB, Ruth Hall, the CEO of AGB and Ron Van der Hoff from Netherlands, who in April of this year joined as National Team Advisor to the GB’s World Class Performance Programme. Archery GB’s Performance Director, Mark Beecher, said that Ron “has had a big impact on influencing both the daily training environment and international competition delivery”. Ruth Hall was appointed CEO to AGB in May 2023, with a goal to work more closely with the archery community and to help modernise the governance of sport. One of the bigger goals was successful, to win the bid to host the 2028 European Championships, which will take place in Nottingham. With six stages behind us, the Archery GB National Tour finals are almost here. The individuals’ highest top four National Tour stage results are added together, and the archers are then ranked in their categories. The top 8 ranked National Tour archers within the Recurve Men (RM), Recurve Women (RW), Compound Men (CM) and Compound Women (CW), and the top 4 Barebow from Barebow Men (BM) and Barebow Women (BW) divisions will be invited to the National Tour. The Hyundai Archery World Cup is the sport’s biggest international tournament circuit, bringing together over 1000 competitors and spanning over 21,000 miles! Beginning in April and covering a total of four stages and four countries, the World Cup is where the best of the best take aim for a chance to reach the grand final, which this year is in Nanjing, China, in October (17th – 19th). The circuit offers the largest prize purse of any outdoor target competition, totalling more than 400,000 Swiss Francs (£370,000/$497,000); with the final four champions each receiving a cool 30,000 Swiss Francs (£27,800/$37,000).
