I am sorry to say that Lara is no longer the editor of Your Dog. She has left the company but I wanted to use this opening letter to say what a fantastic job she has done for Your Dog, not just as editor in recent times but in over a decade working on the websites, social media, and a whole host of other projects. Picturesque, historic, and iconic, Whitby is one of the jewels in the crown of the British coastline — and a haven for dogs. Just six months after being discovered, crying and cowering, in a freezing cold lorry at Cairnryan ferry port in Dumfries and Galloway in January, the last of 24 seriously ill puppies has finally settled into her forever home. Described by the Scottish SPCA as one of the country’s most remarkable animal rescues, many of the young Cockerpoos and Cavapoos had life-threatening diseases when they were uncovered in unsanitary conditions in cardboard boxes without any food or water. Immediately taken to one of the charity’s rescue and rehoming centres for round-the-clock veterinary assessment and care, the puppies were infested with ear mites and many were suffering from a range of gastrointestinal illnesses.
