The 663-foot Centerfold concept design from Italy’s Nuvolari Lenard would have a displacement of 16,800 gross tons, engines with a total of 100,000 hp, and projected speeds of at least 35 knots. YACHTSMEN HAVE A HABIT of calling Jeff Druek and telling him they want to live their cruising dreams. ¶ Druek is president and CEO of Outer Reef Yachts, which builds long-range motoryachts from 58 to 115 feet length overall. About 10 percent of the buyers, Druek says, are “roamers,” by which he means boaters cruising far off the beaten course, exploring destinations such as the Galapagos Islands and Patagonia. ¶ Felipe Massú is definitely that kind of boater. He bought the 2014 Outer Reef 700 Motoryacht Dogo’s Hideout, whose previous owner had been keeping it in the Pacific Northwest. HARGRAVE YACHTS is known for building custom vessels. The challenge with that business model is that custom yachts are one-off projects, which means they can be harder for brokers to sell. Most customers like to see a rendering or brochure for an existing model as a starting point in their shopping process.¶ So, when Miami-based designer Patrizio Facheris asked to show Hargrave CEO Mike Joyce an idea for a 120 that could be a production boat, Joyce was happy to take a look. ¶ “He laid it out on the table, and I said, ‘I think Jack Hargrave would’ve liked this,’” Joyce says. “As modern as this 120 is, everything lines up. GARMIN IS takingboaters’ situational awareness to new heights—literally. With its Surround View camera system, the company aims to mitigate virtually all problems that skippers typically have when docking and maneuvering in tight spaces. ¶Using six cameras located around the boat, Surround View provides a bird’s-eye video and 360-degree views from the helm. For now, Garmin says, regardless of the boat’s size, there will always be six cameras: two amidships (one each to port and starboard), two foredeck cameras (again, port and starboard), one camera at the tip of the bow, and one far aft at the stern. There’s a row of three helm seats with fold-down armrests beneath the protection of an oversize hardtop and a tempered safety-glass wraparound windshield. Abaft the helm seats are a covered electric grill, refrigerator and sink, with foldout trays that convert to two aft-facing mezzanine seats.
