When i was a kid, i went to the store and bought sneakers. I didn’t get sets of running shoes, basketball shoes, cross-training shoes or walking shoes. Just sneakers. And I was a die-hard Chuck Taylor fan. I had a pair of sneakers. ¶ These days, I have those cross-training shoes, boat sneakers, fishing sneakers, boat shoes, flip-flops, closed-toe boat sandals and more. I still have only the same two feet, but footwear has evolved to suit those hyperniches. If you are an enthusiast of those hyperniches, you find a need and a place for all the available offerings. ¶ I see a similar marketplace evolution when I look at hull designs these days. 60' LENGTH OVERALL 35'1" MAXIMUM BEAM Sunreef has announced its newest model, the 60 Sunreef Power Eco. The power catamaran will have more than 738 square feet of solar panels covering the yacht’s hull sides, superstructure and curved areas. Sunreef says its panels, which the builder produces in-house, generate 13 kWp and have a peak performance of 24 percent. The Eco’s solar panels weigh about 3.96 pounds for every 10.7 square feet, while the builder says many competing solar panels are far heavier. As with most things on boats, the reduced weight translates into better overall performance. The limited-edition rye whiskey ($499) is aged for 17 years in American oak and then finished in rare Spanish oak, followed by a second finish in South American teakwood casks. The Viareggio-based builder had just produced a bespoke WB27 limousine tender based on the styling of Venetian water taxis. KD’s owner wanted a tender inspired by the automotive world. The yard produced this WB27, which has fully working taillights taken from a Bentley Mulsanne. The hardtop is built in two sections that can be removed to create an open boat that feels like a convertible sports car. TED FONTAINE designed the Surfari 50 sport-utility tender to tackle rough waters en route to surf spots, secluded beaches or weekend getaways. The 52-foot, 11-inch boat’s hull, deck and superstructure are built using e-glass, low-viscosity resin and carbon-fiber reinforcements.
