As I write this column, I have no idea what the planet’s health status will be when you read it. The term “social distancing” has gone from totally unknown to a public-health mandate. All international boat shows from Brisbane, Australia, to Dubai to Palm Beach, Florida, and beyond have been canceled or postponed for the foreseeable future—local ones too. ¶ It’s been said many times, but it can’t be said enough: We will all get through this crisis. Dynamiq has announced a new superyacht project: the GTT 160. The 162-foot superyacht’s styling is from Dobroserdov Design with naval architecture, including the yacht’s fast-displacement hull with aft hull-vane foil, from Van Oossanen Naval Architects. The yacht will be all aluminum and powered with twin 720 hp MAN diesels. Top speed is expected to be 17 knots with transatlantic range at 14 knots. At 10 knots, the builder reports a range of 4,000 nautical miles. Dynamiq says that for owners who want more performance, 1,800 hp MANs should offer a top-end speed of 23 knots. BY NOW, THE WORLD WAS SUPPOSED to have met the Huckins Sportsman 38, an all-new, hybrid-power yacht inspired by the lines of the builder’s classic Sportsman 36 from the 1930s. The 38’s debut was scheduled for the Palm Beach International Boat Show this past March. ¶ But then, the coronavirus pandemic gripped the country, shutting down pretty much everything, including that boat show. The team at Huckins had the boat launched and on track to be displayed, but now, the builder is planning the official debut for this fall, likely at the Newport International Boat Show in Rhode Island. ¶ “The boat looks just like the renderings,” says company owner Cindy Purcell. “She’s really pretty.” ¶ Here’s the good news, according to Purcell: The sea trials went exactly as planned,…

WHEN BALTIC YACHTS in Finland launched the 175-foot Pink Gin VI in 2017, she was the world’s largest carbon-fiber sloop as well as the second-largest yacht the builder had produced in its nearly half-century history. ¶ The owner, apparently, wanted more. ¶ This past September, Damen in the Netherlands delivered the 150-foot support yacht Pink Shadow to the same owner, who plans to use both vessels for regatta racing and more. ¶ Damen is calling the combination a whole new approach to luxury cruising under sail. ¶ “With a Yacht Support like Pink Shadow, owners can enjoy the true sailing experience and racing performance, while also enjoying top capability for guest services, equipment and storage,” managing director Rose Damen stated in a press release.…
