Stainless steel seems as ubiquitous in the kitchen as salt and pepper. But in designer Mick De Giulio’s hands, the metal is an intriguing chameleon that smartly plays multiple roles. “When you see a great movie for the second or third time, you notice details that you missed the first time,” De Giulio says. “The best designs are like that too.” In this Michigan kitchen, polished stainless steel grabs attention like a matinee idol. That idea plays out in Jennifer and Robbie Abt’s Montgomery, Alabama, kitchen. An abstract painting stretches across a handsome paneled range hood, imbuing the kitchen with unexpected beauty, detail, and interest.
