Born in 1930, my mom, Gwen Doutt, was a fun, outgoing person and well-liked by co-workers, friends and members of her church. My dad, Bernie Speth, was six years older and loved telling stories about his childhood. The couple were introduced in 1948 or’49 by mutual friends Dale and May Schreckengost.
Dale and my dad had served in the military during World War II. After they returned to the States, my dad went back to the grocery store business in Titusville, Pennsylvania. In 1948, Mom graduated from high school in nearby Franklin and went to work at a bank in that town. Twice a week, Dad would drive his produce truck to Cleveland, Ohio.
