You never forget your first pet. My hubby and I have had three during our many years of marriage—two Norwegian elkhounds and a calico cat. They were great with our kids and everyone who visited. But when they were gone, we never got another dog. We just couldn’t. Then came our cat, Misha, who belonged to our youngest son, Nathan. Soon after he left for college, she started pulling on the bottom of our closed bedroom door…

Rainbow-hued stage lights boldly spelled out his first name. A guitar-wielding figure pulsed as a backdrop. Palpable excitement thrummed throughout the Honolulu International Center. Suddenly the 8,800-seat arena erupted. There he was, at age 38, still turning heads with those Greek-god good looks! Grinning broadly, he took his time strutting to center stage. Then, on Jan. 14, 1973, shortly after midnight, Elvis Presley rocked the house in the televised charity concert Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite, an event beamed worldwide to countless fans. Festooned in a sequined white jumpsuit and perspiring profusely, he essentially re-created his stage show from Las Vegas, where he performed from 1969 to 1976. Augmented by a full orchestra and gospel backup, he reprised only four of his classic hits from the 1950s, preferring mainstream standards…
