Shot business owner fights for his life CHARLENE SOMDUTH AN EMPANGENI man is fighting for his life in hospital after being shot at his business premises in mysterious circumstances. Jay Moodley, 50, the owner of SA Bedding, was shot in the chest. His son, Ashlin Moodley, 24, was shot in the head and died. His remains were cremated on Sunday at the Stanger Crematorium. Colonel Thembeka Mbele, police spokesperson, said the father and son were attacked by unknown men inside their business premises in Empangeni Rail last Thursday afternoon. “The men fired shots at them. ‘I had nothing to do with hit on doctor’ Father denies any involvement in killing of anaesthetist accused of negligence in his son’s death JANINE MOODLEY THE father of Zayyaan Sayed has denied involvement in the killing of specialist anaesthetist, Dr Abdulhay Munshi. Mohammadh Sayed made the statement following several reports that suggested it was a revenge killing for his son’s death in October 2019. Zayyaan,10, who suffered from reflux, underwent a laparoscopic procedure conducted by Munshi and Dr Peter Beale, a paediatric surgeon, at Johannesburg’s Park Lane Hospital. His lung collapsed soon after the surgery and he died. Munshi and Beale were accused of negligence and were suspended from the hospital after investigations by Netcare and the Health Professions Council of SA (HPCSA). Pastors defend Christian mission against abuse allegations JANINE MOODLEY Supplied WHILE allegations of fraud and sexual abuse have surfaced against Kwasizabantu, a Christian mission station in Kranskop, several pastors and a former Phoenix policewoman have a different story to tell. Theresa Moodley, an ex-policewoman, said she worked with the mission for over 40 years and was one of the first group of people to visit there. DA suspends MPP amid probe CHANELLE LUTCHMAN THE DA in KwaZulu-Natal has confirmed that it suspended MPP (member of the provincial parliament) Bradley Singh this week pending the outcome of an investigation. This was after an eight-minute recording, alleged to be between Singh and Michelle Lutchman about an alleged altercation in July, was shared on several WhatsApp groups. Lutchman, a DA councillor, succeeded Singh in his ward in Phoenix after he was sworn in as an MPP.
