Women’s Golf is Australia’s ONLY golf magazine dedicated to women golfers. Full of great tips and training ideas, equipment reviews, industry news, course profiles, golf fashion, athlete interviews, golf holidays & much more.
THE Tokyo Olympics have certainly generated a lot of attention to our sport. Which is well warranted given that golf participation numbers in Australia and abroad have soared in recent years. More and more people are cottoning on to just how much fun you can have cracking a little white ball around the course whilst enjoying the health benefits of the great outdoors. In more Olympic news, Brisbane was announced host city of the 2032 Olympic Games which makes our Brisbane Golf Guide well timed indeed. Continuing on the Queensland theme, Wimbledon winner and Brookwater Golf Club ambassador, Ash Barty, made time to chat golf with us. Plus, we headed north to the Whitsundays to play the picturesque Hamilton Island Golf Course and a few unique regional courses too. Also,…
THE POWER IN NUMBERS I’m fairly new to golf, but it wasn’t long before the challenges that women have and sometimes still face in this sport, both professionally and at a club level, were brought to my attention. I made a decision early on after purchasing this magazine that instead of jumping on the politics and debating the injustices, I would take a firm stance. If organisations and/or clubs refuse to encourage or support women, then Ladies Golf won’t support them. Every day on this journey I am blown away by how much financial backing and support the brands and associations are putting towards women joining this sport. Don’t get me wrong, there is still a very long way to go to – the gender pay gap in golf is…
SKYE CHOUEIRI – CERTIFIED PGA GOLF PROFESSIONAL Skye began her golfing journey at 11 years of age and quickly earned the reputation through her teens as one of the brightest prospects in Australian amateur golf. WHEN the Solheim Cup was created over three decades ago, some wondered if it would be successful in practice as well as in principle. Today, the answer is a resounding ‘yes.’ The cup is one of the most anticipated events on the golfing calendar. There was a time however when the Solheim Cup’s future was somewhat in doubt. It was intended to be the equivalent to the Ryder Cup, the biennial match between male professionals representing the United States and Europe. PING founder Karsten Solheim (who was himself a native of Norway) lent his considerable influence and energy to the creation of the event, which was contested for the first time in November of 1990 at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in Orlando, Florida and featured two eight-player teams.…
ASH Barty is a multi-talented sportswoman whose list of admirable achievements on the world sporting stage continually make us Aussies beam. She’s a legendary tennis player, former professional cricketer, has mad skills with an AFL footy and is also a very, very good golfer. So much so that we’re confident Ash could turn pro if ever she chose. Yep, Barty’s sporting prowess is nothing short of amazing. We’re chuffed that Ash made time between winning the Wimbledon women’s grand slam event and representing Australia at the Olympics to have a quick chat about one of her favourite all time sports – golf. Please tell us a bit about your local course at Brookwater Golf Club? Brookwater is my local and my favourite spot to play when I’m home, it’s a…
FLYING the Australian flag and donning the traditional green and gold colours, will be the seventh placed 2016 Rio Olympian, Minjee Lee and Olympic debutant Hannah Green. The two women secured their places on the team via the Olympic Qualification process which selects the top two players from each nation from the Rolex Women’s World Rankings (no. 14 and 15 respectively). However, it is a somewhat contentious rule that gives certain nations a better chance. A maximum of four players can be selected per country presuming all players are within the top 15 on the rankings list. This rule is precisely how the United States have four players selected and this doubles their opportunity to win gold. Five-time LPGA Tour winner Minjee Lee has had two top tens on tour…
