Before starting a project, Ridge, who has been directing magazine photo shoots for more than 20 years, heads to her Sherwin-Williams store for color inspiration. “I like holding color chips next to each other to see which ones work together,” she says. A Serena & Lily console was the only piece in her entryway, so the possibilities were endless. After picking blush tones for the wall, she grabbed a dark blue to use on a wood mirror. “I wasn’t expecting to pair pink with blue, but when I saw the chips together, I loved how the indigo elevated the look,” she says. To add the wave detail, she painted the whole wall, then attached a stencil and painted the top section a lighter color. Palette-Inspired Picks…
When Sidney set out to tackle her first big paint project, she turned to the experts for help picking her palette. She downloaded the Sherwin-Williams Color Expert app, where she found all sorts of combinations in the 2025 Colormix Forecast (it shows groups of colors that work well together). “I was drawn to a palette called Paradox, and I felt reassured that whatever I picked from the group would be a good choice,” she says. She used two greens for a wide stripe design, and a yellow on her table, then she referred back to the collection for color ideas when she picked out accessories to go with her neutral Crate & Barrel chair. how bad is it to leave your A/C cranking all the time? Running an air conditioner at full blast 24/7 puts wear and tear on the unit and wastes a lot of electricity. Most modern systems have the ability to cool things down quickly, so use the energy-saving settings when you’re not at home. KINDA BAD! how bad is it to go to an open house just for fun? Open houses are just that—open! There’s nothing wrong with attending one even if you’re not actually shopping for a new place. “Listing agents use them as marketing tools to obtain clients, not necessarily to sell the house,” says Peter Boscas, a real estate agent in Maryland. He estimates that less than 2 percent of houses are sold to open house attendees! When…
