A funny thing happened while we were shooting the double cover for this issue. Our design director, Ridge Carpenter, had chosen a beautiful inky blue (Indigo by Sherwin-Williams) for one of the walls, and everyone who saw it in our photo studio reacted in the same way: They would stop in their tracks, stare, and say, “Wow, what color is that?” That question happens to be the name of one of this magazine’s longtime columns (check it out on page 19), and I was delighted to see the headline come to life. “Wow” illustrates just how transformational color can be: We’ve featured soothing blue bedrooms, sophisticated olive green offices, and in one especially memorable photo, a glossy lemon piano.
