Americana (also known as American roots music) is a blend of American music, mixing shared and varied traditions that make up the musical culture of the United States, specifically genres that are emerged from the Southern United States such as folk, gospel, blues, country, jazz, rhythm and blues, rock and roll and bluegrass.
Americana encompasses a lot of different styles!
According to the Americana Music Association’s organization’s website, Americana music is a sweeping, all inclusive home for a wide range of American roots styles that include “country, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues.”
Strangely enough, some music widely considered “Americana” is written and performed by musicians who are not themselves American. Neil Young and The Band are two good examples.
