Lilleshall, the home of Archery GB, once again played host to a major championship, with the long awaited appearance of the European Youth Championships in August. It’s not the first youth championships held there, by any means. Way back in 2004, the World Youth Championships staged at Lilleshall was won by Carla Frangilli, with future megastar Lisa Unruh in third. Indeed, looking back, the youth events medal table is invariably studded with major stars of the future.
The logistics of organising an event with over 300 athletes from 30 different countries, and a finals field with an astonishing 20 podiums to organise, schedule and medal up, almost beggars belief. Jon Nott, as ever, organised a well-drilled army of volunteers to marshal Europe’s top youths around the huge Lilleshall grounds.
