REVIEWS editor Richard Ingram is fast approaching 2,000 miles in his facelifted Volvo V40, but a few things are starting to niggle. While the hatch remains an accomplished and economical long-distance cruiser, rear visibility is poor – and the lack of a reversing camera doesn’t help. Worse still, the parking sensors can be hit and miss in tight spaces.
Recently, Rich used the car to collect his weekly shopping. As usual, the V40’s sensors picked up the adjacent parked cars, as well as a pedestrian close by, but they failed to recognise the dark green concrete pillar situated just behind the rear bumper on the offside.
Luckily, he stopped just in time, although reversing an inch further would have resulted in an annoying, and no doubt expensive, trip…
