Scrolling through the available pets at Battersea's famous Dog and Cat Home, Sue Edwards, 65, had soon spotted 'the one'.
'My kids, Charmian, then 22, and James, then 24, still lived at home and they'd been asking for a dog for years,' Sue recalls. 'When I saw a photo of a beautiful blue greyhound I thought, She's the dog we want.'
However, when Sue went to meet the dog, she got a shock.
'The photo on the website had only shown Kitty from the neck up,' she explains. 'When they brought her out she was in a terrible way – bedraggled, mostly bald and so skinny you could see every rib. She was absolutely wild too, climbing all over tables and pulling stuff from the bins.
