NEWS YOU CAN USE THE MARATHON MORTGAGE More pensioners than ever before could end up juggling mortgage payments, with over 40% of new mortgages and remortgages in the last quarter of 2023 set to stretch past state pension age. The data, from a Freedom of Information request by Sir Steve Webb at consultancy firm LCP, also showed that more than a million mortgages due to last beyond retirement have been arranged over the last three years. Funny old world A first edition copy of The Beano has become the most expensive British comic ever sold. The rare issue, which was published on 30 July, 1938 with a cover price of just two old pennies, sparked a bidding war among collectors before selling for £30,940 at an online auction. A shoplifting bird, dubbed Steven Seagull, has been banned from a corner shop in Dorset for flying off with packets of crisps over a six-year stealing spree.
