The MCY 105 is the flagship of the seven-model range from Monte Carlo Yachts, and it’s now available in a Skylounge version. Longtime collaborators Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard worked with MCY on the design, whose enclosed flybridge has more than 460 square feet of space. Owners can choose pretty much whatever they would like to fill that space, including “uses never imagined before,” according to the designers. The builder says the enclosed flybridge makes it possible to cruise in “extreme climates” beyond the usual island-hopping. Some traditional onboard elements include an upper-deck helm with 360-degree visibility, an aft terrace overlooking the sea, and a bow lounge with sun pads and dining tables.…

Fountaine Pajot was expected to host the premiere of the MY4.S at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September. This is called the “Sport Top” version, which is designed to create a dynamic look whether the yacht is at anchor or pushing toward its reported top-end speed of 23 knots. There are two interior layouts available. The Maestro version has an en suite owner’s stateroom as well as two double-berth guest staterooms and a single head for them to share. The Quatuor version has four double-berth staterooms with two heads. Draft in each version is just 2 feet, 7 inches, making this boat ready to explore the Bahamas. THERE ARE 294 BAGUETTE DIAMONDS and three stones totaling about 8.2 carats in the Legacy Machine FlyingT Baguette from MB&F. How could the company top that edition of the watch? By releasing a new edition of the FlyingT every year, each one featuring a different gemstone. ¶ The newest version is made with vibrant green malachite (about $145,000) surrounded by diamonds and an 18-karat white-gold case. According to MB&F, the malachite should bring good health, including protection from lightning. SOME YACHTS ARE born of evolution, while others are created to fill a niche. The Apollonian 52 Pilothouse, which is the brainchild of Pacific Northwest yacht designer Howard Apollonio and Seattle-based yacht dealer Vic Parcells, falls in the latter category. Apollonio and Parcells saw a dearth of raised pilothouse boats in the 50-foot range, so they designed the Apollonian 52 for owners who want to enjoy longer cruises or live aboard. ¶ The yacht is a vacuum-infused fiberglass build with closed-cell foam coring and vinylester resin, produced in a two-part mold. The hull has double chines, a traditionally styled bow, and a flybridge with plenty of room for the single helm seat and settee that’s offset to port. VANDUTCH’S 32-FOOTER IS THE NEW entry-level vessel in the Dutch brand’s five-model range, which also includes 40-, 48-, 56- and 75-foot yachts. Like its larger siblings, the VanDutch 32 retains the brand’s minimalistic, windowless hull styling. Italian shipyard Cantiere del Pardo recently purchased the brand and is building the new model. ¶ The VanDutch 32’s helm station is to port and has a single helm seat with a backrest and two cup holders. There is additional forward-facing seating for one, parallel with the captain’s seat and separated by the belowdecks entrance on centerline. The galley belowdecks has a cooktop, sink, microwave, and refrigerator/freezer below a plasma TV. I hope you are having a good summer thus far. Wanted to drop you a note showing my appreciation for your foreword/letter in the August edition of Yachting. I too grew up in coastal New England, year-round, and gained an affnity for the Down East hull design from a very early age. Hull No. 1 of this Italian cruising machine is reportedly with its owner in US waters. The yacht is an evolution of the Open version and follows in the wake of Riva’s Dolceriva Hard Top. Design is by the Product Strategy Committee led by Piero Ferrari, with designer Mauro Micheli of Offcina Italiana Design and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department. Top speed is 38 knots with a pair of optional 1,200 hp MANs, and cruising speed is 34 knots, according to Riva. (MANs of 1,000 hp apiece are standard, for a top hop of 34 knots.) ISA Yachts says performance is the main ingredient in its Super Sportivo 100 GTO. The builder says that during the first sea trials aboard ldabra, the triple 2,000 hp MAN engines worked with the hydro-jet propulsion to achieve a top speed of 55 knots. Marco Casali of Too Design penned the interior and exterior, working alongside a staff that specializes in carbon fiber, a material that helps to reduce weight. Other pound-saving design decisions included replacing deck soles with PE/EVA, a closed-cell marine-grade foam that also aids with heat reduction and soundproofing. THE LAST DROP lives up to its name as a distiller, having released just 22 limited bottlings (fewer than 10,000 bottles) since its founding in 2008. The company describes what it does as “rare spirit hunting,” sourcing rare casks suitable for long maturation. ¶ Now comes the brand’s first signature blend, The Last Drop 50 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky ($4,250), limited to 500 bottles worldwide. BEFORE THERE was even a United States of America, there was a man named Deacon James Morgan. In 1712, he became owner of the land at the mouth of the Mystic River, a spot we know today as coastal Connecticut at the intersection with Long Island Sound. Morgan’s descendants—who spent their lives building ships and going to sea themselves—eventually sold the land to the federal government. The original Morgan Point Light was built in the early 1800s along with a keeper’s house of stone. A brighter lighthouse was established later that century, what with all the marine traffc in this part of the New World. ¶ Today, the lighthouse is privately owned, so the best way to see it is by boat. The Flynt 956 Nova is the debut model from Flynt Yachts, a Dutch company founded by designer Robert-Jan Sanders. Vripack handled the boat’s design, naval architecture and engineering. Construction is in composite polyester for lightweight durability. I LOOKED AT THE GPS ON THE VIKING YACHTS’ 46 Billfish Mack 900. The speed showed 41.5 knots as twin 900 hp Scania diesels spun at their rated 2,300 rpm. These motors represent the first step in the Swedish company’s commitment to the US pleasure-craft sector. ¶ Scania is a household name in Europe, known for building all things on- and off-highway, including buses, trucks and diesel engines. A FEW YEARS AGO, whenCostaDelMarenteredthe research-and-development phase for its Untangled collection, the team realized there was a problem making certain styles of glasses. Costa was designing the first generation of Untangled glasses using material that California-based Bureo creates from recycled fishing nets. It was a great step forward in sustainable eyewear, but because of impurities, the material wasn’t yet able to be shaped into some styles of glasses that many boaters and anglers prefer. ¶ Now, those styles are part of the second generation of Untangled designs.
