On February 3, 2025, the precious metals platform A-Mark Precious Metals, Inc. announced a definitive merger agreement to acquire 100% of the stock of Spectrum Group International, Inc. A-Mark will pay $92 million, comprised of 50% cash and 50% A-Mark common stock, to own 100% of Spectrum Group International's outstanding stock. Many women have and are working as coin designers, but they are underrepresented in the industry, and rarely a female name is listed in discussions of influential coin designers. Women have impacted the industry, and their stories deserve to be told. One such life is that of Frances Madge Kitchener (1889–1974), a British artist who designed the reverse of the George VI threepence coin. Born into a wealthy family, Kitchener first worked as a nurse for the French Red Cross during WWI. She then obtained an artistic education at the Slade School of Fine Art and caught the Royal Mint’s attention after winning a competition for a medal design at the 1924 British Empire Exhibition.
