‘I HAD TO SHUT MY EYE WITH TAPE AT NIGHT’ As I paid for groceries at the supermarket in August 2003, I felt a sharp pain in my ear. At the time, I thought nothing of it. Yes, it was a little uncomfortable, but working long shifts in child services, and running around after my children, Jodie, then 15, Jake, nine, and Jaime, three, meant that I didn’t have time to visit the GP.
