Founded in 1983, Cheltenham Cricket Society (CCS) boasts almost 200 members, with around 100-120 in attendance at most events. Like most societies, the majority of events take place between October and April. For the CCS that means a monthly meeting on the evening of the first Wednesday of the month at the Victory Club in Cheltenham, but on occasion there are special events held during the summer. From 2025, the level of the Surrey Championship I play at is expected to switch to a full season of limited-overs cricket. Over the years, I've generally been more of a limited-overs fan. At its worst, timed cricket at recreational level, especially the lower rungs of it, incentivises negative cricket. Our current playing conditions almost encourage you to slow down the over-rate if you're behind in a game. And compared to 50-overaside affairs, games are more vulnerable to being dominated by a handful of individuals.
