WHEN IT COMES to headlight bulbs, there’s a big gulf between the latest high-intensity discharge (HID) or xenon units and halogen bulbs, which have been around in various forms for nearly 60 years. On average, HID bulbs are twice as bright as halogens, last about 10 times as long and project a wider, higher beam of light that’s cleaner and whiter. Also in the news at the time was NASA’s discovery of water on Mars, and in comparison, this small SUV was as revelatory as discovering water in your pond.
