Cocktail maestro and the former president of the UK Bartenders’ Guild, Salvatore Calabrese is the mastermind behind Velvet, the new bar at London’s Corinthia hotel. Its darkly opulent interiors, by David Collins Studio, look like they’ve been transported from the Golden Age of Hollywood, with a profusion of crimson and ink blue velvets, gold walls and fringe lamps. The extensive cocktail menu features 1920s classics like the Bee’s Knees, a Prohibition-era favourite made from Tanqueray gin, lemon juice and honey, as well as signature Calabrese creations, such as the Spicy Fifty, which blends Stolichnaya vanilla vodka with elderflower, fresh chilli and lime juice. Most notable, however, is the bar’s menu of seven different martinis, including a Breakfast Martini made from Tanqueray gin, cointreau, lemon juice and orange marmalade. corinthia.com/london, @velvetatcorinthia…
