Happy New Year everyone (unless you got your copy the first week of sale that is). Welcome to the February issue of VWt, mostly produced in November, that comes out late in December, depending on if you’re getting your Transporter fix from a shop, on subscription or on download that is. It has been said many times, and it’s hard to argue against that Cornwall is the spiritual home of the camper van. With its beautiful beaches, wide open spaces and diminishingly narrow country lanes, it is the perfect habitat for a compact camper. Something like, oh I don’t know, a Volkswagen perhaps? Going against the grain, quite literally, Kenny decided not to clad the entire seats in leather but to try out a new velour from his supplier to break things up. “They make things for luxury hotels and I’m told this particular material has a very high ‘bum count’,” he laughs. Apparently, that translates to hard-wearing. Conversely, the material is super soft to touch. “I felt a sample and said ‘oh, that’s lovely’,” says Kenny. Only to then find out the company actually named it Lovely! “It might be a bit 70s for some,” he smiles. “But it’s something a bit different and really softens up the whole interior.”…

Paul and Ros hadn’t bought the camper at the time of the shoot and so they very kindly sent us this picture of them with their ‘baby.’ Paul was very keen for everyone to know about the gansey he is wearing, hand-knitted by Di Tomlinson of Sea Dogs, Penryn. Did you know, each gansey has a unique pattern? This identifies a fisherman to his town or even family should the worst ever happen at sea. VW FOUR-MIDABLE AT WHAT CAR? VAN AWARDS Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles claimed four prestigious titles in the inaugural What Car? Van Awards, with the Caddy, Transporter, and Crafter all honoured with accolades. The titles included Best Overall Van and Best to Drive in the Large Van category for the Volkswagen Crafter.
