’79 Bay Window, Carl Eames When Carl Eames bought his Bay Window three years ago, he had a seven hour drive from Yorkshire back to his home in Essex, during which time the engine was kicking out smoke and oil etc! In need of some restoration work, Carl stripped the bodywork back to a bare shell and then it was booked into a body shop for some remedial work. This included replacement wheel arches and quarter panels. The paintwork was originally orange, but the exterior was repainted in blue and white by Sunset Campers. The old pop-top was cracked and tatty so was replaced with a Dormobile roof. The 1600cc engine also underwent a much needed rebuild and in the future, Carl plans to upgrade it to a 1641cc for…

Rob Gwinnett is a bit of a serial Volkswagenista. Around six years ago he filled a few pages of this very mag with a Sealing Wax Red Riviera Split and, as recently as 2014, had his Porsche Sepia Brown Resto Cal Beetle using up ink in our sister mag, VolksWorld. Two years after our summer holiday through France and Germany as far as the German Alps, we decided to head west to the Emerald Isle, to visit family on the east coast and to travel the coastline of Northern Ireland. Once again we travelled in Lola, our ’76 Westfalia Berlin With Lola packed up with bikes, our dog Inka and the four of us, we had a very slow, traffic bound journey up from the south to north Wales. We arrived in Conwy near Anglesey at 10pm and were greeted with the most wonderful view of the castle, backlit by the post-sunset sky and illuminated by floodlights. It’s so depressingly English to bang on about the weather all the time, but there’s no escaping it with this show report, it was raining cats and dogs for the 2016 Brighton Breeze, and pretty darn grim at times. However, you don’t grow up in this dull and drizzly land without becoming used to a spot of rain, so we donned our Camper&Bus ponchos, grabbed a brolly and braved the Brighton seafront to grab the pictures you see before you. Dogback adjustable caster beam, £POA Correct castor angle is crucial to how your Bus drives down the road. Too little and your Bus will be skittish and wander about, too much and the steering will be heavy and your Bus try to understeer. Dogback Performance Beams are the first worldwide offerings with adjustable castor angles (up to 5mm) and feature a bottom tube that is 5mm further forwards than the upper tube. The centre pin has been shortened to improve ground clearance and they use needle roller bearings (as fitted by VW) and come either 3- or 4-inch narrower than standard. There are two reasons people decide to run air suspension; some just want a low-ish driving height, with the option of being able to raise the vehicle up to get over speed bumps and obstacles; and then there are the other types, the people who want it to facilitate super lows and lay frame when they’re parked up.
