Among Cal Look enthusiasts, the 1967 model year is undoubtedly the most popular, and enduring, even though in Europe the transition between the ’66 and ’67 model years was somewhat less obvious than across the Atlantic.
Over there, Beetle customers had been enjoying their new upright headlights, and suitably modified front wings, for a whole year before us Europeans had the same opportunity. And when we did, in August 1967, for the ’68 model year, this simple but important stylistic change was accompanied by a whole raft of other, arguably less welcome ones, such as tombstone rear lights and heavier, more chunky bumpers (unless you chose to stick with a bare bones Standard model of course).
