The first thing you see upon entering Villa D’Estate is the stairway, curled like a cat’s tongue in a swathe of grey steel, and lit from above by a hand-poured skylight that creates patterns of light on its static, metal form. It’s a sign of things to come in this Bellevue Hill home — here, everything feels sculptural. In the early aughts, Sheree Commerford celebrated her 30th birthday by booking all five apartments at Seascape, Yamba’s iconic oceanfront mid-century holiday accommodation, and filling it with her closest friends. Phoebe Nicol has fallen madly in love more than once. In fact, it wasn’t so long ago that she set her heart on a 17th-century mirror, which now hangs in the sitting room of this Woollahra home.
