“We had considered doing something independently, but ultimately, returning to Australian fashion week felt right,” says Lee Mathews of her show this month, which coincides with the 25th anniversary of her label. “I showed in one of the very first years,” she recalls.
Mathews’s constancy is a feat in an industry that is difficult to survive, let alone thrive, in. Her resort show is a way to stitch together the many threads of her label.
“It’s about distilling what we do best – the dresses, the prints, the colours that have always defined us,” she says. That includes palettes grounded in hues found in the natural environment, with the occasional inclusion of joyous brights.
