On February 19, 2015, the last night of New York fashion week, Marc Jacobs took over the Park Avenue Armory. The walls were draped with handpainted scarlet canvases, an homage to Diana Vreeland’s famous living room, and the models wore breathtaking sequin columns, embellished snakeskin coats and floor-sweeping pleated skirts. Backstage after the show, the designer explained how Vreeland’s fierce dedication to the universe of style inspired him. “I felt like that’s what fashion is, that complete addiction, obsession, that I’ve-got-to-have-it need until I basically wouldn’t be caught dead in it,” he said, as the houselights came on and the crowd streamed out of the circa-1880 building.
