ASK any upstanding Brit to name their favourite day of the year that isn’t Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Easter Sunday, St George’s Day, Valentine’s Day, New Year’s Eve, Halloween or their birthday, and you’ll get the same answer every time: April Fools’ Day. Or Pancake Day.
April 1st is the wacky 24 hours in which we are permitted – or even encouraged – to play good-natured pranks on our nearest and dearest. And from Land’s End to John O’Groats, this traditional day of merriment makes every one of us proud to be British.
Well… perhaps not quite every one of us.
