Dear Macca, Chaka and Acker,
WHEN, why, how and where were Christmas crackers invented?
Selwin Corpuscle, Hove
Macca, Chaka and Acker say: Believe it or not, Christmas crackers were actually invented by the Ancient Egyptians! In the early 1920s, archaeologist Howard Carter discovered hieroglyphs in Cairo dating all the way back to 1350 BC that showed people pulling apart rudimentary rice paper tubes before sitting down to eat. These tubes appear to contain novelty headdresses made from brightly coloured papyrus, miniature sets of flint arrowheads, and nonsensical, appallingly-written riddles. Carter believed the tradition began as part of a yearly sacrificial ritual performed at dinner time on Christmas day.
Dear Macca, Chaka and Acker,
What is the most expensive Christmas cracker ever produced?
