It’s raining in the Scottish glen: a thin, persistent drizzle that is so fine it has breached the high-tech defences of our waterproofs and is soaking our skin, apparently by osmosis. The surrounding mountains are shrouded in mist, and there’s an oppressive sense of foreboding in this still, silent valley. It is the kind of place that makes you yearn for a warm pub and a roaring fire.
