CATHY AND JEAN
Jean, now 85, gave birth to a daughter, Maria, in 1956 at a Mother and Baby Home in Surrey and the baby was given up to a Catholic adoption society. Eager to learn what happened to her child, Jean is overwhelmed to be reunited with Maria, now called Cathy.
‘I’ve always felt inferior,’ explains Jean. ‘When she was 18, I wrote to the society to ask if they had news of her. They wrote back and said, “No,” but I thought maybe we’ll be united in heaven one day.’
