There’s a new competitor in the online streaming market: OzFlix, a service devoted entirely to Australian movies. Due for launch in the first half of 2016, OzFlix will provide digital film rentals and feature Australian movies dating from the 1900s right through to recent releases. In a recent interview, service co-founder Ron Brown, a film and TV producer, told of plans to have between 250 and 400 movies at its launch. Within three years, OzFlix will hopefully be able to offer access to every Australian movie ever made. Sounds like very good news for fans of Australian-made content.…

Australian TV drama production levels have dropped in the past year, according to Screen Australia’s annual Drama Report. The total hours of airtime for Australian adult drama programs fell from 472 in 2013/14 to 401 in 2014/15, in large part because most programs had durations of 10 hours or less. And while the commercial free-to-air networks are still the biggest financiers of Australian drama, their contribution reduced in the past year. But there are concerns at shorter commissions by networks.
