In 1968 New York, a gay group of friends gathers for a sumptuous and raucous birthday party, hosted by Michael (Jim Parsons), in honour of Harold (Zachary Quinto), the sharp-dressed and sharp-tongued member of the group. As the night unfolds, partygoers like Donald (Matt Bomer), Michael’s ex-lover, struggle with self-analysis, Larry (Andrew Rannells), a randy commercial artist revels in his live-in relationship with Hank (Tuc Watkins), who has just left his wife, and Bernard (Michael Benjamin Washington) tiptoes around the fraught codes of friendship in getting to know Emory (Robin de Jesus), an outrageous decorator.
