ACCOMMODATION
Aasleagh Lodge is a beautiful 19th century Victorian country house hotel adjacent to the fishery. It has nine comfortable bedrooms and two self-catering cottages. However, because of a change in the fishery lease (now controlled by Inland Fisheries Ireland) the lodge and cottages are closed in 2017.
There are several Great Fishing Houses nearby if you yearn for old-fashioned luxury; notably, Lough Inagh Lodge, Delphi Lodge and the Ballynahinch Castle Hotel. For those on a budget, Connemara is full of small, welcoming B & Bs, but book these in advance in the high season.
Delphi Adventure Resort is five miles from the fishery, offering walking, mountain biking, climbing, canoeing, surfing, snorkelling, adventure trails and archery.
FISHING
Not a noted early-spring fishery, Aasleagh gets good fish in April-May. Summer grilse…
