WHAT RIO OLYMPICS WHEN 20 AUGUST 2016 WHERE COPACABANA, RIO Reigning world champion Gwen Jorgensen was always favourite to take the Olympic gold medal in Rio. And despite the best efforts of her competitors, the race was hers from start to finish. It was a very different Atlantic Ocean that greeted the women’s Olympic racers, lining up on Copacabana beach. The gently lapping waters of the men’s event two days previously had developed into a stomach-churning swell and choppy surf, spelling out a much tougher swim from the moment the racers entered the water from a beach sprint.
