ON November 29, 1946, at the Place de la Concorde in Paris at the Automobile Club de France, the Motocross des Nations was brought to life by the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme. Pitched as an “international cross-country race,” the nations of Belgium, Holland, and England agreed to organize and host the event on a rotational basis. On July 20, 1947, the premiere running of the Motocross des Nations took place in The Hague, Netherlands, and was won by Bill Nicholson, Fred Rist, and Bob Ray of Great Britain, and the Motocross des Nations was up and running.
