TWMX DOES DAYTONA PROPERLY IN WHAT ’S BECOME a yearly tradition for fans of motocross or anything with two wheels and a motor, the week of Daytona Supercross by Honda has also become our yearly tradition for an excuse to scour Florida and the surrounding areas for content leading up to the race. This year’s plan was no different, but the path of coverage spanned almost 1,000 miles over seven full days from Dade City to Georgia, then back to Clermont and on to Daytona. We wrapped up a solid week by hitting three different facilities, cruising Daytona Bike Week, and, of course, covering the Daytona Supercross by Honda. For 2017, the Flexair pant chassis received an all-new design. Made of four-way stretch TruMotion fabric, the knee of the pant has been redesigned for a sleeker fit throughout the joint’s range of motion. The internal liner has been removed from the pant to reduce weight and snagging against knee braces, and the seams have been taped to eliminate any chaffing. This month was one of those times, but our friend Jamie Ellis of Twisted Development was happy to let us borrow his dyno room for a couple hours. Twisted Development is highly regarded as one of the sport’s premier engine builders, and they have built several fire-breathing machine for us in the past. For the past several weeks, we’ve been keeping an eye on a project bike that was coming together at the FMF Racing headquarters. FMF’s director of marketing and business development, Don “Little D” Emler Jr., picked up a 2017 Husqvarna FX 450 motocross bike but wanted to build it into the ultimate do-it-all machine. Little D’s goal was to build a bike that could be ripped down the trails one day and raced around a motocross track with a few parts changes the next. The finished product is pretty amazing, and we had a chance to take it out to the track and trails before Little D even rode it!
