If it were almost anywhere else, Y Lliwedd would be far more celebrated than it is. Forming the bulk of Snowdon’s curved southeastern ridge, it deserves to be treated as a mountain in its own right, rather than simply a way off its parent. It’s joyfully scrambly, delightfully airy, and spectacularly situated. Treated in isolation this is an irresistible mountain, with steep, fractured cliffs and a double summit towering above the waters of Llyn Llydaw and the glacial cwm it calls home. Routes to the top range from scrambling to straightforward walking, and all are glorious.
