Can you hear it? The last, slow, dying breaths of the compression ignition engine? Yup, diesel-engined cars are on their last legs, and while it’s not my favourite fuel, it certainly made quite an impression during its brief lifespan. Back in the olden days–when I was a lad – you wouldn’t have dreamed of ordering a diesel car: vehicles that supped from the black pump were primarily HGVs. The cars were slow, noisy, and unrefined, and while they might have been efficient, fuel was so much cheaper back then that there just didn’t seem to be much point in buying one.
