The Sportbrake is a better XF than the saloon. It’s better-looking, more useful and just as good to drive. And it has exactly the same problems. The interior and infotainment systems are nothing like as good as Audi’s, Merc’s or BMW’s, and nor are the powertrains. This one is a 2.0-litre turbo petrol with 247bhp and rear-wheel drive. It’s quiet enough at a cruise, but a bit rough at lower speeds and saddled with an eight-speed automatic gearbox that, around town anyway, comes across as indecisive and jerky. And that’s a shame because, dynamically, the XF Sportbrake is talented. Among the very best in its class, in fact. Though we haven’t tried it…
