It is hardly surprising that the western Algarve is a little less discovered by British golfers; to get there, you jump in your hire car at Faro and turn left onto the A2, which sweeps you to even the furthest-west course in an hour. The problem is, however, that the journey takes you past signposts for some of European golf's biggest names: Pine Cliffs, Quinta do Lago, Vila Sol, Vale do Lobo and, of course, the trump card of Vilamoura itself.
