What happened
There was hope this week that the Omicron wave of Covid-19 had peaked in Britain, as cases fell steeply across the country and hospital admissions stabilised. On Tuesday, 121,000 daily cases were recorded, down from 219,000 the week before. In London, where Omicron first hit, hospital admissions were down 17% since the New Year. Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Levelling Up, said, in light of this, the UK could look forward to a “progressive lifting of restrictions” in the coming weeks. It was time we learnt to “live with Covid”, he added.
