If you love white burgundy, but baulk at the price, you should “snap up a mouth-watering Mâconnais”, says Jane MacQuitty in The Times. The current crop of Mâconvillages, Pouilly-Fuissé and St-Véran, mostly from “the racy yet ripe 2017 vintage”, is “the best I have tasted”.
At Aldi, the 2017 Exquisite Collection Mâcon-Villages, Burgundy (£6.99) is a “light but lively Mâconnais” with sparky lemon zest, quince and yellow apple fruit. Or from Sainsbury’s, the 2016 Taste the Difference Mâcon-Villages, Burgundy (£8) is a “young, fresh, unoaked” example with “juicy star fruit and green apple crunch”.
