The Rías Baixas region of Galicia, on Spain’s Atlantic northwest coast, remains the place where most albariño is made. For a budget buy, Aldi’s The Exquisite Collection Rías Baixas Albariño 2015 (£5.29) captures the grape’s characteristic crispness well.
If you’ve got a little more to spend, I’d go for Majestic’s Martin Codax Caixas Albariño 2015 (£8.99), or Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Albariño 2015 (£8). Or best of all, Wine Rack’s Pagos del Rey Pulpo Albariño, Rías Baixas, 2014 (£9.99) has a bit more floral subtlety and peachy charm.
