From August 3 to 10, girls from the US and other countries gathered in Greenville, North Carolina, to compete in the Little League Softball World Series (LLSWS), the world’s largest youth softball tournament. In the championship game on August 10, West Suburban Little League from Johnstown, Pennsylvania, defeated Floyds Knob Community Club Little League from Indiana, 1–0. The victory marked the first time a team from Pennsylvania has won the LLSWS title since 1978.
Throughout the summer, teams from around the country, made up of girls ages 10 to 12, participated in district, section, state, and regional tournaments to determine the eight US teams that would compete at the LLSWS tournament.
